NOT ALONE
In the stillness
At the end of day
When all alone
We softly kneel
And quietly pray
With simple words
We let our thanks
Be known
And soon discover
We are
Not alone

HANNIBAL Hannibal, Oh Hannibal What tales Thy river shores Have Churned Of barefoot days And genteel ways And lessons left unlearned Hannibal, Oh Hannibal With island woods So deep Lovers leap with cliffs So steep You'll never grow old So long as tales Of Huck and Tom Are told Hannibal, Oh Hannibal We remember still Your mystery caves And runaway slaves Your paddle wheels And girlish squeals Mid summer nights Not so far away Nor long ago (The above poem is one of a series of articles we wrote while taking what became known to our family in 1977 as our Great Western Trek, as we travelled from Maryland to Utah. The poem was written the day before we entered the town of Hannibal.) IN YEAR JUST AHEAD In the year just ahead There're songs to be sung Beautiful pictures to be hung Daily tasks to be done Glorious victories to be won In the year just ahead There're old sins to be forsaken Reaching hands to be shaken Steep mountains to be climbed Majestic poems to be rhymed Wounded souls to be healed Wondrous visions to be revealed Accomplishments to be measured Family moments to be treasured In the year just ahead There're simple prayers to be said Homeless children to be fed Lost sheep to be shepherded Little lambs to be led In the year just ahead THE WINTER SNOW FALLETH The winter snow falleth Upon the mountain tops Cascading down brightly Gleaming ever so gently Upon the mountain sides Giving hope and promise To those who sin and fall To those who seek relief And eternal reconciliation To the father of us all Fall winter snow, fall (Written on November 6, 2014) |
