THE FIELDS ARE WHITE WITH SNOW The fields are white with snow No more plowing to be done Cold, bare trees stand tall and still Beneath the frozen yellow sun Advent season has come and gone Christmas carols are no more sung While the tree is gone away somewhere No more stockings on the chimney, hung Why could not that jolly season last And shall it ever come again, Oh now, The new year's seasons shall quickly pass And we shall soon make merry, once again, O my friend (Written on January 26, 2017) THE WORST LIARS Rudyard Kipling wrote the following: "Of all the liars in the world, sometimes the worst are your own fears." Fear of poverty has made many of us greedy Fear of rejection has made many of us introverted Fear of failure has made many of us afraid to try Fear of tomorrow has made many of us procrastinators Fear of the unknown has made many of us unknowledgeable Fear of the light has made too many of us too secretive While the Lord has said, "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. (Isaiah 41:10 kjv)" PSALM 120:1,7 In my distress, I cried unto the Lord and he heard me I am for peace but when I speak they are for war SITTING BY OUR LAUGHING FIRE Sitting by our laughing fire We watch the embers glow And remember when as youngsters We thought we'd never grow But we, like sparks aflyin' Hoped and dreamed to dare Reached ever onward, upward 'Neath our parents' loving care Now we have children of our own That spark us with desire That leave warm feelings in our hearts And set our souls on fire We knock now at your door Oh Father, please come and let us in That we may sit and laugh with you And know you as our friend (First posted in December, 2011) STEP UP An unknown author has written... "Mountains viewed from a distance seem to be unscalable, but they can be climbed, and the way to begin is to take the first upward step...The slopes that seem so steep from a distance seem to level off as we near them." Certainly, human history presents us with overwhelming evidence that indicates that all mountains...whether geographical, mental emotional, or spiritual...may be climbed... and conquered...one step at a time. And, isn't it interesting that the slopes, which once appeared so difficult to climb, look so simple as we view them from a higher vantage point? Never be afraid to step up higher... to where the air is purer and eagles fly (First posted on March 2012)

Of homecomings and parades Of gentle embraces and tender caresses Of sugar cookies and candy canes Of silver 'cycles frost-pasted on pastel skies Of pleasant fires, hot chocolate and buttered pop-corn Of soft sentiment and serenity sublime Of bountious harvests from previous plantings Of walking softly as with shoes of snow Of cold noses and warm hearts Winter is a time...for pondering the past in preparation for the future.
