                                              OBSERVING THE OBVIOUS

Hopefully, as we become older, we become wiser,
or at least more proficient in observing the obvious...

That freedom of worship is the bulwark of a truly free nation
That all of us do have the ability to change, to repent, to improve
That regardless of how antiquated it sounds there really is
                            "no place like home"
That America has two outstanding attributes, her people
                            and her natural beauty
That each generation has the obligation to seek better ways
to promote the general welfare of our country
That in spite of our many problems, most Americans continue
to face the future confidently and optimistically

                                                    ON THIS DAY

                                          An unknown author has written
                                          "On this day...
                                          Mend a quarrel
                                          Search out a forgotten friend
                                          Dismiss suspicion,
                                          And replace it with trust
                                          Write a love letter
                                          Share some treasure
                                          Give a soft answer
                                          Encourage youth
                                          Manifest your loyalty,
                                          In a word or deed
                                          Keep a promise
                                          Find the time
                                          Forego a grudge
                                          Forgive an enemy
                                          Listen

                                          Apologize if you were wrong
                                          Try to understand
                                          Flout envy
                                          Examine your demands on others
                                          Think first of someone else
                                          Appreciate, be kind, be gentle
                                          Laugh a little more
                                          Deserve confidence
                                          Take up arms against malice
                                          Decry complacency

                                          Express your gratitude
                                          Worship your God
Gladden the heart of a child
                                          Take pleasure in the beauty
                                          And wonder of the earth"

OUR GREAT UNDERTAKING

                                          OUR GREAT UNDERTAKING

"So live," wrote Mark Twain, "that when you
come to die even undertaker will be sorry."

Life was made for living and giving
Life was made for sharing and caring
Life was made for love not lust
Life was made for faith and trust
Life was made for words sublime
Life was made for the upward climb

Let's not view life too gravely
Rather, let us make life to be...
                                Our great undertaking

STEP UP

                                                             STEP UP

                                         An unknown author has written...

"Mountains viewed from a distance seem
to be unscalable, but they can be climbed,
and the way to begin is to take the first
upward step...The slopes that seem so
steep from a distance seem to level off as
                                         we near them."

Certainly, human history presents us with
overwhelming evidence that indicates that all
                                         mountains...whether geographical, mental
                                         emotional, or spiritual...may be climbed...
and conquered...one step at a time.

And, isn't it interesting that the slopes,
which once appeared so difficult to climb,
look so simple as we view them from a higher
                                         vantage point?
Never be afraid to step up higher...
to where the air is purer and eagles fly.

PROCRASTINATION

                                              PROCRASTINATION

                                      "Procrastination," wrote
Don Marquis, "is the art of keeping
                                      up with yesterday."

                                      Keeping up with yesterday is
almost as difficult as getting ahead
                                      of tomorrow.

While it is pleasant to have
                                      fond memories of yesterday...
                                      And glorious dreams and hopes
                                      for the future...
The present time is the time
                                      for the work at hand.

If we are to strengthen our character,
                                      it must be done today.
If we are to repent of sins,
                                      it must be done today
If we are to love our families,
and neighbors, it must be done today.

                                      Seldom do we procrastinate in
the right direction, at the proper time.
May we look well to this day.

                                                              FAITH

                                                   Faith affirms the future
                                                   Faith is never fickle
                                                   Faith is the first step
                                                   of wisdom's journey
Faith is to the mind of man
what wings are to the bird
Faith fans the flame of hope
                                                   Faith paints the sunrise
                                                   Faith is the mainspring
                                                   of all noble action
                                                   Faith turns hardship
                                                   into worship
                                                   Faith is the silent partner
                                                   of prayer
                                                   Faith finishes

                                                            TIME FLIES  188

On a sundial at the University
                                     of Virginia, Charlottesville,
                                     There is an inscription that
                                     reads as follows...

                                     "Time is...
Too slow for those who wait
Too swift for those who fear
Too long for those who grieve
                                     Too short for those who
                                     But foe those who love
                                     Time is eternity
                                     Hours fly, Flowers die
New days, New ways pass by
                                     Love stays
                                     Time counts the minutes
                                     Love makes the days.
                                     Time rushes boldly on
                                     Love has its gentle ways"

SPEAKING OF GREATNESS

                                                SPEAKING OF GREATNESS

"The less people speak of their greatness,"
wrote Bacon, "the more we think of it."

Perhaps that is why we have --
so many politicians -- so few statesmen
so many teachers -- so few great examples
so many writers -- so few great authors
so many musicians -- so few virtuosos
so many broken homes -- so few happy homes
so many years of war -- so few days of peace.
Perhaps he is greatest who --
                                            listens well
                                            prays in secret and
                                            acts in silence.

                                                    LOVE LETS GO

                                        Love lets go of...
                                            wasteful moments
                                            foundless fears
                                            gloomy despair
                                            yesterday's mistakes
                                            tomorrow's problems
                                            broken promises
                                            evil appearances
                                            unkind words
                                            uncharitable feelings
                                            unchaste thoughts
                                            unholy acts
                                        Love lets go...
                                        and lets God enter in.
