                                  PSALM 8:1,3,4,5,9

O Lord, our Lord
                                    How excellent is thy name
                                           in all the earth
                                     Who hast set thy glory
                                        above the heavens

                                 When I consider the heavens,
                                      the work of thy hands,
what is man, that thou art mindful
                                               of him?
                                    For thou hast made him
                                                a
                                                 little
                                                      lower
                                            than the angles,
                                      and hast crowned him
                                       with glory and honor

                                          O Lord, our Lord
                                   How excellent is thy name
                                                  in
                                            all the earth

THE ROAD OF ERROR

                                      THE ROAD OF ERROR

                                Nearly every man (and woman)
travels down the road of error
until he or she realizes it does
                                them more harm than good.

                                Those who are fortunate enough,
learn this lesson early on, and
                                thereby often avoid the serious
                                consequences that usually follow
                                poor choices.

As you go around the tree of life,
                                watch out for the snakes.
                                They bite hard. And oftentimes,
                                the are deadly.

LITTLE CANDLES

                                               LITTLE CANDLES

George Bernard Shaw made this wise
                                  observation...

"I am sure that if people had to
choose between living where the noise
of children never stopped and where it
was never heard, all the good-natured
and wise people would prefer the

incessant noise to the incessant silence."

Many years ago, we read this to our sweet
wife, and she replied, "let me think about
that for awhile, I'm not too sure."

Of course, this was after a full week of
having all four (count them, four) children
at home from school with colds.

Albeit, there is bickering, quarreling and
fighting from time to time, we would be
quite lonely and miserable without our
                                 children.

For their lives are little candles, whose flames
continue, in this darkened world, to lighten our
                                 path with a celestial glow.

(And this continues even more so to this day,

and now includes our 12 wonderful grandchildren,
                                and one great grandson.)

SON FLOWERS

SON FLOWERS

We have often heard the terms,
                                  "budding author," or "budding artist."

These terms suggest to us that while
our feet may be planted on earthen soil,
with proper nourishment and Son light,
we could grow to our full spiritual measure.

Unfortunately, too many of us are often tricked
by the weeds growing around us, and we permit
them to choke us off from our source of spiritual
vitality. And, we therefore may grow into nothing
                                  better than blooming idiots.

Having myself wandered down the path of weeds,
I have learned this simple lesson...We must
permit the Son to come into our lives, or we shall
                                  surely wilt and die.

May we plant where we are.
                                  Plant now for the future.
Plant well. For, the Harvester soon cometh.

                                                            PSALM 7:1,8,10,18

                                             Lord my God
                                                 in thee
                                                  do I
                                             put my trust

The Lord shall judge the people
                                         Judge me O Lord
                                according to my righteousness
                                               and
                                  according to mine integrity
                                           that is in me

                                            My defence
                                                  is
                                               of God
                                   which saveth the upright
                                              in heart

                                        I will praise the Lord
                                 according to his righteousness
                                            and will sing
                                                praise
                                            to the name
                                               of the Lord
                                                   most high

REST IN PEACE

                                                     REST IN PEACE

"Our goal," wrote President Harry Truman,
must be...not peace in our time...but peace
                                  for all time."

Perhaps it may be an oversimplification, but
we would like to suggest that one of the main
reasons we are not presently at war with any
nation, is that they we and they do not wish to be.

We have noticed that our grandchildren, at times,
they play beautifully together, while at other times,
they have a compulsive desire to fight, and any excuse
will do.The leaders of our nations often act the same
                                  way.

Unless there is a change of heart within the leaders
of all nations and their countrymen, we suspect
                                  President
Truman's desired goal may never be reached.

We must come to see that real power does not lie
in armaments of war, but rather in pursuing peace
in and for all nations. May we rest in peace.

THE THIRD PARTNER

      THE THIRD PARTNER

                                        An unknown writer has authored
                                        these wise words...

"A truly happy marriage is one in
which a woman gives the best years
of her life to the man who made them
                                        the best."

Often, we've heard the suggestion that
that marriage should be a 50-50 proposition.
We've also heard that it should be a 100-100
                                        percent giving venture.

Both of these suggestions, when adhered to,
go far toward making our marriage years
                                        become our best years.
But we are discovering that the best of marriages
are those which have taken on a particular third
partner as a constant companion and comforter.

The Scriptures refer to the third partner as the
Holy Spirit.  We need him in our marriages today
if we would desire to remain within the bounds
and the bonds of an holy matrimony.

May we not trivialize, nor cast aside, our third partner.
He wishes to make our marriages long lasting and
                                        most joyous.

                                                                   PSALM 6:2,4,9

                                         Have mercy upon me
                                                   O Lord
                                              for I am weak
                                                   O Lord
                                                   heal me
                                       for my bones are vexed

                                              Return O Lord
                                              deliver my soul
                                                  save me
                                          for thy mercies' sake

The Lord hath heard my supplication
                                                The Lord
                                                will receive
                                                my prayer

PRESBYOPIA

                                                          PRESBYOPIA

During the middle ages (okay, okay, during
our middle ages), we went to our optometrist
for an eye check-up. (Why do we say eye check-up?
Don't we usually have both of them checked? Up?

Anyway, the good doctor informed us that
we had presbyopia, and should start wearing
                              glasses.

He then proceeded to inform us that presbyopia
means we can see objects faraway but not up
close. In other words, he said we were farsighted,
and needed bifocals if we wished to continue reading
a newspaper with ease and clarity.

Spiritually speaking, it might easily be asked: How is
our vision this day? Do we see our situations and our
lives with our spiritual eyes. Do we view those around
us in any type of spiritual context?

If we are having difficulty with our spiritual visual
acuity, may we be wise enough to contact the
Great Physician this next week. He can help us
                              get our vision back.

After all, if there is no vision (or even very poor
vision), people often perish. (See Proverbs 29:18)

HEAVE-HO

                                                 HEAVE-HO

With so many of today's marriages
breaking apart upon the rocks of
                                disillusionment and discouragement,
perhaps we could advise those contemplating
the launching of a new partnership to heave-ho
                                only in sea-worthy vessels.

No marriage relationship should have less than
                                three loyal and dedicated crewmembers...
A husband, wiling to listen to the Captain of his
soul. A wife, willing to be content in the role of
a helpmate in the home.  And, the Holy Spirit as
                                Chief Navigator.

In our marriages, we should constantly be
concerned with the state of our ship.

The object of any successful voyage, even so in
marriage, is not merely to set sail, but rather to
have an enjoyable voyage and arrive
safely on

      the other shore.
