   PALM SUNDAY 1977

  We lay our palms down , dear Lord
We cast them in your way
We shout Hosannas loud, dear Lord
Can't you see our grand display

What dear Lord? Desert you
Never, never, nay!
Just listen how we praise you
Just listen how we pray

We shall deny you, dear Lord
Before the cock crows thrice
But, that's already done once, Lord
And, it wasn't very nice

Don't you want our palms, dear Lord
We thought you'd be impressed
Are all our words vain repetitions
And all our gestures, merely jest

You mean there's still a cross to bear
There's still a bitter cup
And we must join you at Calvary
If we're to sit with you and sup

Then let us go with thee, dear Lord
With courage and stout heart
And see the Cross as not the end
But simply as a start...
Of Something Good.

SHUT MY MOUTH

Anonymously someone has written...

"God gave man a mouth that closes and
ears that don't, That should tell us something."

As in all things of importance, there is an
appropriate time or season for keeping silent.

Zechariah implores us to "Be silent O
all flesh, before the Lord." (Zech. 2:13)

Too often, in our prayers, we talk to much
and listen too little.

May we heed the admonition of Jesus Christ,
who said, "He that hath ears, to hear, let him
hear. (Mathew 11:15)

  SPRING IS COMING

   Has the winter been a hard one for you?
It has for us. But with every passing week now,
we see signs that Spring is coming.

Yes, Winter hates to give up and let go.
It's almost as though with every last gasp of cold
breath she breathes, Winter seeks to hold on to
her frozen ground and bare trees,

If you are struggling with cross-eyed winds
of Winter, take heart...

Spring is coming. The Lord is going to break
up our fallow ground. He's going to rid our land
  of weeds.

   The Lord is going to prosper our land and our
lives.

The harsh Winter is almost over.
Take heart... Spring is coming.

A LITTLE KINDNESS

"A little kindness, from person to person,"
wrote Richard Dehmel, "is better than
a vast love for all human kind."

The world needs kindness
And so do we
Be kind to your neighbor
Is our simple plea
From person to person
Oh let us be free
To show forth kindness
Toward you and for me

A little kindness
Can go a long way
A little kindness
Can brighten the day
A little kindness
Please if we may
Let us show kindness
To each other today

AT THE BOTTOM

An unknown author has written...
"Juvenile delinquency is the result of
parents trying to raise their children
without starting at the bottom."

We offer this axiom to you because we
believe it is accurate and true. But, we
also offer this quote to youwith great
caution.

For we believe that too many parents
use their children as scapegoats, to rid
themselves of the frustrations accurred
while trying to cope with the pressures
of our materialistic age.

We highly suspect that parents who
overly indulge in spanking their children
probably spend little or no time with their
children in prayer.

And, unfortunately, too many Christian
parents use the "spare the rod, spoil the
child" proverb of King Solomon as an excuse
to physically abuse their defenseless
children.

To the best of our knowledge, Jesus Christ
never spanked a child...but He blessed many.
Should we not do likewise?

KINDNESS 440

KINDNESS 440

There's an old cliche' that goes "They
killed him with kindness."

But we ask, "Who among us has ever
received too much kindness? And who would
not receive more if he could?"

We seem, at times, to live in a world
in which there is a prevalence of thoughtless
thinking, careless speaking and unkind actions.

Who among us has been kind enough, often
enough?

To be kind enough, especially to those
who do not reciprocate, is not an easy task.

But, their in lies the challenge to us all....
to be kind regardless of the immediate consequences.

Who, among us all, will be the kindest one today?
Will it be you? Will it be me? Who?

OH, SPRING, WHERE ART THOU?

   Oh, spring, where art thou?
   Thy buds lie deep beneath
The cold and hardened tundra
There are no poppies
Aligned row by row
   For they have yet to grow
We yearn for spring
But not too soon
   As snowmen dot the land
   Beneath the frozen moon
