MY ALMOST GIRL 629

MY ALMOST GIRL  629

                     Neil Simon wrote poignantly
                     about his "Good-bye
girl."

When my hairs have all turned gray
                     (of those that remain,
that is) I shall
fondly reminisce about "My Almost Girl"

"Honey, I'm home! I'm starved, is supper ready?"

 "Well, almost."
"Almost, what do you mean, almost?"
                     "The turkey's not quite unthawed."
"Well, this turkey's unthawed and ready to eat."
                     ("You can say that again.")
                     "What...What did you say?"
"Nothing, dear. Why don't you lie down
                      until supper's
 ready?"

"Is the bed made?"
"Well, almost. It'll just take about ten minutes
                       to
dry the bedding... You still love me though,
                       don't you?"

                       "Well, almost!"

HE IS ABLE  645

                           HE IS ABLE 645

"If a care is too small to be turned into a prayer,"
writes Corrie ten Boom, "It is too small to be made into
    a burden."

When shall we who profess a dynamic Christian life
ever stop brooding and worrying over the day to day
problems that are continuously sent into our lives?

When shall we learn that our most gigantic,
serious problems as well as our smallest, bothersome
    irritations are known by God.

And, large or small...He is able to handle them all.

Resist evil with good...Turn you burdens into prayers...
Release your faith in the Lord...And He shall lift you up.

Love Their Mother  #640 2022

                                  LOVE THEIR MOTHER

A very wise man penned these lines...
"The most important thing a father can do
for his children is to love their mother." (Author unknown)

We know of no finer, easier, surefire way of avoiding
divorce and keeping many children's hearts from breaking
                        than the above admonition.

Loving your wife means putting up with all her idiosyncrasies
for the rest of your life (after all, she has to put up with your
                        peculiarities indefinitely, too).

Loving your wife should be your most enjoyable pastime.
And that love and the enjoyment of that love should
                        increase with maturity and age.

Your children should sense and observe your love
                         for their mother.

For the sake of your marriage and your children...
                         Love their mother!

NAME PLEASE 636

    NAME PLEASE!
Good friends of our family recently had a new
born baby girl. Mother and child got along fine but
they ran into a slight problem...The hospital said they
could not leave until they had named the babe.

(We can just imagine what went on...The names have
been changed to protect the guilty.)

Mary: "This is terrible, John, maybe we could
    sneak out around midnight."

John: "Sorry, I've been told they double the
    security force after visiting hours."

Mary: "John you're the president of a bank, you're
    intelligent, think of something!"

John: "Well, she was a couple of days late, we could
    always name her "Over Due."

Mary: "Very funny. I think I will cry. I want to
go home to mother. You stay here with the baby."

John: "I know, why don't you name her 6-9-79 for
    the day she was born?"

Mary: "They want a name, not a number."

John: "How about 'Spring Delight' for 'Daylight
    Savings Time.'"

Mary: "A first and middle name, that's all we need."

John: "Why don't we let her last name be used also
for her first and middle names. That way, she'll never
have to worry about whether her first or last name comes
first when filling out a job application of loan format?"

(The last time we talked with Mary on the phone, no
name had been decided upon, but a Coleman stove had been
smuggled into Mary's hospital room and light housekeeping was underway.)

THE THIRD AMENDMRNT

The Third Amendment to the Constitution
of the United states of America

No soldier shall, in time of peace
                           be quartered in any house,
without the consent of the owner,
nor in time of war, but in a manner
                           to be prescribed by law.

Ratified in 1791, the Third Amendment to the U.S. Constitution
              sets forth two basic requirements.
During times of peace, the military may not house its troops
in private residences without the consent of the owners.

During times of war, the military may not house its troops
in private residences except in accordance
             with established legal procedure.

By placing these limitations on the private quartering of combatants,
the Third Amendment subordinates military authority to civilian control
and safeguards against abuses that can be perpetrated
by standing armies and professional soldiers. (Legal Information Institute)

Described by some as “a preference for the Civilian over the Military,”
the Third Amendment forbids the forcible housing of military personnel
in a citizen’s home during peacetime and requires the process
to be “prescribed by law” in times of war. (Cornell Law School)

This Amendment is not considered controversial and has
never been litigated before the United States Supreme Court.
           (Cornell Law School)

(However, many of us on the right could certainly argue that the
socialists are presently (2021) using the military to over-reach
and abuse this amendment, causing litigation to occur. (bm)

SPRING IS COMING (1977)

                                                                        SPRING IS COMING (1977)

Has the winter been a hard one for you?
It has been for us. But with every passing
week now, we see signs that spring is coming.

Yes, Winter hates to give up and let go.
It's almost as though with every last gasp of cold
breath she breathes, Winter seeks to hold on to
her frozen ground and bare trees,

If you are struggling with the cross-eyed winds
                                         of Winter, take heart...

Spring is coming. The Lord is going to break
up our fallow ground. He's going to rid our land
                                          of weeds.

The Lord is going to prosper our land and our
                                          lives.

You can get through this harsh Winter. Again,
                                          take heart... Spring is coming.

(This article was probably published during
the winter of 1977, but, obviously was a little
                                          late publishing this year, 2016.)

                                         ISAIAH 49:8,9

                               Thus saith the Lord,
                               In an acceptable time
                               have I heard thee

And in a day of salvation
                               have I helped thee
                               I will preserve thee
and give thee for a covenant
                               of the people,

                               to establish the earth,
                               to cause to inherit
                               the desolate heritages

                              That thou mayest say
                              to the prisoners
                              Go forth
To them that are in darkness
                             Shew yourselves

They shall feed in the ways
                            and their pastures shall be
                            in all high places

They shall not hunger or thirst
Neither shall the heat nor sun
                           smite them
for he that hath mercy on them
                           shall lead them
Even by the springs of water
                           shall he guide them

THE SECOND AMENDMENT to the CONSTITUTION

"A well regulated militia, being necessary
to the security of a free state,
                            the right of the people

"In the 2008 case District of Columbia v. Heller,

the Supreme Court held that the "Second Amendment
protects an individual right to possess a firearm
unconnected with service in a militia,
and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes,
such as self-defense within the home."

                               (*Legal Information Institute)

The second amendment grants all law abiding
citizens the right to own, keep, and bare arms.
Today, there are many socialists in the United States,
and even several roaming the halls of Congress who would
love to confiscate your guns. Please be aware and alert
to what is going on. (bm)

                                                     THE DAYDAWN IS BREAKING

                                        The day dawn is breaking
                                        So be of good cheer
                                        With the Savior nearby us
                                        We have nothing to fear

                                        Tho’ the journey seems arduous
                                        And the hours seem long
                                        We shall keep going forward
                                        While singing this song

                                        The night time is ending
                                        Our struggles are o’re
                                        Sunbeams are now shining
                                        With glad tidings once more

Oh, the day dawn is breaking
                                        So be of good cheer
                                        With the Savior nearby us
                                        We have nothing to fear

(The first three verses were written
on October 11, 2013. The reprieve
                                         was added  three days later.)

AMONG THE DANDELIONS

                                                        AMONG THE DANDELIONS

In an 1898 issue of "Harper's Weekly."
Williston Fish wrote "I leave to children
exclusively, but only for the life of their
childhood, all and ever, the dandelions
of the fields and the daisies thereof, with
the right to play among them freely."

With Mr. Fish, we too, would leave...
                               The beauty of the butterfly
                               The lowing of cattle
The coolness of a shade tree
The feather of the baby owl
The morning glories and tulip trees
Honey suckle and acres of thistles
to be picked and blown at will

We would go for as long as possible and
as far afield as possible among the daises
and the dandelions of the world and we
would see and be seen...as little children.
