AMONG THE DANDELIONS

                                                     AMONG THE DANDELIONS

In an 1898 issue of "Harper's Weekly."
Williston Fish wrote "I leave to children
exclusively, but only for the life of their
childhood, all and ever, the dandelions
of the fields and the daisies thereof, with
the right to play among them freely."

With Mr. Fish, we too, would leave...
                               The beauty of the butterfly
                               The lowing of cattle
The coolness of a shade tree
The feather of the baby owl
The morning glories and tulip trees
Honey suckle and acres of thistles
to be picked and blown at will

We would go for as long as possible and
as far afield as possible among the daises
and the dandelions of the world and we
would see and be seen...as little children

WINTER GIVES WAY 613

                                                                        WINTER GIVES WAY 613

                                      As winter begrudgingly gives way
To spring, we watch with silent awe
As petals from our tulip tree
Across our lawn do gently blow
Herald of fairer days and nights
Coming so close to within our grasp

The blossoms of a thousand limbs
                                      Bespeak of a beauty rare
                                      It comes upon us, everyone
This season of the year, and asks
Us, with simple faith, to offer
Trust and love to the father of us all

So season gives way to season
As upward the steps of time
We climb, making room for others
                                      Persuading, perhaps aright at times
In the verdant meadows of our mind,
There's a fine season up ahead

TICK-TOCK 232

                                                            TICK-TOCK 232

"It is possible to own too much,"
                             suggested Gene Brown, "A man
with one watch knows what time
it is; a man with two watches
                             is never sure."

This is similar to the statement
                             by the Apostle James (1:8)...
"A double minded man is unstable
                             in all his ways."

It is perhaps difficult for many of us
to consistently remain stable in our
                             everyday, often-changing, challenging
                             and oft-times threatening world.

Perhaps one reason for our continued
inconsistencies in moral and spiritual living
is that...we fail to recognize that while all
of our parts are important ones, we could
                             not run
for a second if our Creator failed
                             or
refused to set our mainspring and minor
                             wheels in motion.

As in some watches, as also in most men,
it is very difficult for us to be ticking while
                             we're tocking.

To be in harmony with the Harmonizer of
the Universe would suggest we need...
a steady hum...which only He can give us.

                             THE COACH  631

As we take to the field of life,
it ought to be rather apparent
to most of us, that there is someone
in our dugout encouraging us to play
our best and be our best.

And, when we come to bat, He doesn't
want us to strike out, or foul out. In fact,
He'd love to see us hit a home-run every
time, or at least get to first base and
advance around the bases until we
reach home. (Although, I'm not sure how
                           he'd view us stealing bases.)

But this I know, He is not as interested with
our fielding or batting abilities as much as
He is with how well we play the game.

There's no doubt in my mind that he wants us
                           to be Champions, everyone.
Thanks Coach, for letting us play on Your team

THE AWL 632

                                                           THE AWL 632

We recently, enthusiastically, reread
the story of a shoemaker's awl that is
continually on display at the French
                          Academy of Science.

This particular awl fell one day from a
shoemaker's table and blinded the eye
                          of his nine-year-old son.

Within  a few weeks, infection took
the sight of the young boy's other eye.

Poor Louis...He spent the rest of his days
in total darkness. However, over time,
Louis turned his adversity into an
advantage for millions of his brothers
                          and sisters.

By skillfully wielding the same awl that blinded
him, Louis devised a new reading system of punched
                          dots on paper.

And so, Louis Braille is honored today by the
same reading system that perpetuates his name
                          around the world.

                                                                            EASTER (1977)

Come to the tomb that is empty
                                        Come to the sepulcher bare
                                        Come to that garden rejoicing
                                        Praising our Savior so fair

Come to the tomb in the morning
Come with your heads held high
Come with hearts that will listen
                                        Listen as Christ draweth nigh

Come to the tomb that is open
Come see the stone rolled away
Come to the tomb and witness
The dawn of a joyous new day

Come to the tomb and meet Jesus
Come with your burdens and sins
Come meet The One who loves you
He gave up his life for his friends

                                        Come to the tomb triumphant
                                        Come meet Jesus, God's Son
Come to the tomb that is empty
                                        Come see the victory won

Love Their Mother   #640 2022 XXXXX

                                  LOVE THEIR MOTHER

A very wise son or daughter penned
             these words..."The most important thing
a father can do for his children is to
             love their mother." (Author unknown)

We know of no finer, easier, surefire way
of avoiding divorce, and keeping many
             children's hearts from breaking than
             tending to the above admonition.

Loving your your wife means putting up
with all her idiosyncrasies for the rest of
her life. (After all she has had to put up
with all your peculiarities indefinitely, too).

Loving your wife should be your most enjoyable
pastime. And that love and the enjoyment of
that love should increase with maturity and age.

Your children should sense and observe your love
             for their mother.

For the sake of your marriage and your children...
             Love their mother!

NEVER MIND THE STORMS  638

                                 NEVER MIND THE STORMS  638

Recently, we picked up a book marker
with these words imprinted at the top...
                        "Never mind the storms."
                        Below the inscription was a
                        beautiful canyon scene with all
the myriad shades and hues of brown
and black and white and misty pinks
and purples on a wide expanse of
                        a canyon gouge.

And, splitting the cloudy sky, down
into the depths of the canyon,
                        there languished a soft, majestic
                        rainbow.

Never mind the storms, they will pass.
They always have, they always will.
While the maker of rainbows shall remain
with us, as our trusted Friend, bringing serenity
in the midst of our storms.
