                                                                                PSALM 109:21,22,26,30

But do thou for me, O God, the Lord
                                              for thy name's sake
                                                because thy mercy
                                                   is good, deliver thou me

For I am poor and needy
                                             My heart is wounded
                                                Within me
Help me O Lord, my God
                                                O save me
                                                  According to thy mercy
                                           That they may know
                                           That this is thy hand
                                           That thou, Lord
                                           Hast done it

I will greatly praise the Lord
                                           with my mouth
                                           Yea, I will praise him
                                           among the multitude

                                                                    THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

                                                  The Lord is my shepherd
                                                  I’m merely a sheep
                                                  He gives me green pastures
                                                  In which I may sleep

He leads me beside still waters
                                                  And restoreth my soul
                                                  He nurtures me while young
And tends me when I’m old

Tho’ I walk through death’s valley
                                                  No evil shall I fear
For His rod and staff comfort me
                                                  I feel His Spirit near

He prepares for me a feast
In the midst of all my woes
                                                  And gives me joy unspeakable
In the presence of my foes

He anoints my head with oil
Fills my cup up past the rim
I’m glad He is my Shepherd
                                                  I’m glad I follow Him

                                                  His mercy and His goodness
                                                  Continually follow me
Oh how I praise my Shepherd
His touch hath set me free

                                                                PSALM 108:1,4,12,13

                                         O God
                                         My heart is fixed
                                             I will sing
                                             and give praise
                                             even with my glory

For thy mercy is great above the heavens
and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds

                                          Give us help from trouble
for vain is the hope of men
                                              Through God
                                             We shall do valiantl
                                            For he it is
                                       that shall tread down
                                          our enemies

TOUGHEN UP OUR FEET

                                                   TOUGHEN UP OUR FEET

While speaking on the subject of rough
                                          roads, an unknown author wrote...

"Be sure if God sends you on stony paths,
He will provide you with strong shoes."

And, we would like to add... "or He will
                                          toughen up our feet."

When upon life's stoney path we walk,
                                          Or along the cobbled street
Provide us with a pair of shoes
Dear Lord, or toughen up our feet

                                          We cannot know what surface
Lies ahead, what obstacles we'll meet
So provide us with some well-soled shoes
Dear Lord, or toughen up our feet.

                                          Someday we'll walk on streets
                                          Of gold, smooth surfaces replete
                                          But 'till that time arrives
Dear Lord, please toughen up our feet.

THE FURNACE IS ON

                                                              THE FURNACE IS ON

During the spring and summer months,
                                    it just sits there.
                                    The furnace... motionless, quiet, unnoticed.
                                    Forgotten.

Then in the fall or winter as the temperature
drops below forty degrees, we begin, to once
again perceive our need for our furnace.

Did you know that God has a furnace for you,
                                    for me?
It may be the furnace of affliction, or the furnace
of illness, or the furnace of loss of a loved one.
But, rest assured, God has a furnace for each
                                    of us.

An unknown author has written,"God would have
no furnaces, if there were no gold to separate
                                    from the dross."

Men may see our dross, but God beholds our gold.
And so, we welcome the time when, in our lives,
                                    God's furnace is turned on.

                                                                     PSALM 107:1,2,3,43

O give thanks unto the Lord
                                            for he is good
                                              for his mercy
                                                endureth forever
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so
                                         whom he hath redeemed
from the hand of the enemy

                                         They wandered in the wilderness
                                        In a solitary way
They found no city to dwell in
                                            Hungry and thirsty
                                            Their soul fainted in them

Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble
and he delivered them out of their distresses

O that men would praise the Lord
                                           for his goodness
                                           and for his wonderful works
                                           to the children of men

Whoso is wise and will observe these things
                                            even they shall understand
                                                  the lovingkindness
                                                     of the Lord

AS THE (MAGPIE) FLIES

5/12/2016

 ?

                                              AS THE (MAGPIE) FLIES

Scene One: 'Tis the night before Mother's day and the wife
is producing a depression fit, and as usual during such
occasions, the husband is no help at all. He knows that
no matter what he says, tears and depression reign. And,
He's thinking to himself, "My wife can't be the only mother
on the face of the earth having depression at this time,
can she? Well, let's hope not. After all, misery does love
                      company, right?!"

Our favorite TV shows are over for the night.("Where's a
Tweety-Pie cartoon when you need one?") The wife has
settled in at the computer to sob and play her favorite
online game-Mahjong. The husband silently slips off to bed.

Scene Two:(The upstairs bedroom.) The husband loves
to read. He's one of those silent, solitary type of men
(except when he is not, of course).

Eventually, the wife comes to bed and says she is not
upset at her husband at all.
"So, what are you crying about?"
                      "I don't know, I just am."
"Is it anything I said or did?"
                      "No!"
The two of them turn out the lights and go to bed.

The next morning (Sunday, Mother's day), the alarm
goes off. The wife has been downstairs, while hubby
sleeps soundly. The nightstand alarm goes off. The
wife comes upstairs to make sure the alarm is off.
Hubby is now awake. She mentions to him, "I'm
                      not going to church."
"Well, if you're not going to church, neither am I."
(Nothing's worse than going to church on Mother's
day, without your wife. Dozens come up to you and
and ask, "Where's your wife, what's wrong with your
                      wife?)

The wife decides to go back to bed. The husband
                      begins to take a bath.
Suddenly, the wife is awakened because of a loud
crashing and tinkling sound. She rushes out of the
master bedroom, to the main bathroom at the top
of the stairs, where she finds several colored trinkets
fallen, and broken in the main tub.
And, above the tub nervously prancing back and forth
                      is a very nervous magpie.

The husband goes to the bathroom, stands on the
outside edge of the tub, and reaches for the magpie.

"Rats" The magpie hops too fast down the window
ledge and slips out of the husband's outstretched
hands. While escaping hubby's grasping, several
of magpie's tail feathers begin to fly and fall toward
the bottom of the tub. (Later in the day,
the grandchildren enjoyed taking home their surprise
                      Mother day gifts.)

The husband reaches again and securely grasps the
black and white visitor, holds it close to his chest
and runs downstairs, opens the front door and releases
the magpie, which immediately spreads its beautiful
black and white wings and floatingly flies away.

                      Amateur psychology and philosophy hour:

The above incident illustrates that we can quickly change
how we think or feel, by simply changing the focus of our
thoughts. The wife focused on the magpie, and her thoughts
and feelings of depression virtually disappeared. (She was
completely recovered by the next morning.)

Sometimes, it pays to stay home from church. At
least the one magpie I know probably thinks so.

The Lord has ten thousand ways to answer our prayers.
An uninvited magpie is simply one way.

And what did the husband had to say about all this?

                      "Caw, caw, caw," of course.

STRANGER THAN FICTION

                                                       STRANGER THAN FICTION (1978)

Last September we purchased two tickets
to the Anita Bryant concert and on the 28th
of October, we went to the Wicomico Senior
High auditorium, and sure enough there was
a concert featuring The King's Men, sponsored
by the Salisbury Community Concert Association,
                                     instead of Anita.

Fortunately, our old friend George White, was
taking tickets, and realizing we had traveled a
long distance, permitted us ti use his parents'
seats (Thanks Mr. & Mrs. Bob White).

Then...Did you ever hear the story about our
grandfather, who supposedly purchased a railroad
ticket for Salisbury, North Carolina, but instead
wound up in Salisbury, Maryland and decided
to settle there, anyway. Oh well, that's another
story... and who would believe it, anyway.
