                                               GREAT PLEASURE

                                               We take great pleasure
                                               In singing a song
                                               In lighting a torch
                                               In righting a wrong

                                                                               We take great pleasure
                                                In sowing a seed
                                                In harvesting crops
                                                In pulling a weed

                                                We take great pleasure
In the lilt of a bird
                                                In a quiet peaceful moment
                                                In reading the Word

                                                                                We take great pleasure
                                                In greeting the sun
                                                In the changing of seasons
                                                In the long distance run

                                                We take great pleasure
                                                In family time leisure
                                                In friends that we treasure
                                                In life at full measure

COME TO OURSELVES

                                                                     COME TO OURSELVES

How often have we heard someone say,
                                "I'm just not myself today"?

                                This poses an interesting question...
If we are not ourselves today, who shall
                                we be tomorrow?

Of course, what we are implying is...
that we are not our "better" selves.
"I'm just not myself today" is usually
followed by the profound (?) statement,
"I've just got to get hold of myself."

Again, what we really mean is...that
at the present time, we have a hold of
our less desirable selves, when we would
prefer to be holding on to our more agreeable,
                                higher selves.

Wrote Emerson, "I want to bring men,
not to me, but to themselves."

                                May we "come to ourselves"...
                                while we
 may still be found.

                            PSALM 118:1,5,6,8,14,17,22,24

O give thanks unto the Lord
                                             for he is good
                                         because his mercy
                                          endureth forever

I called upon the Lord in distress
                                         The Lord answered me
and set me in a large place

The Lord is on my side
                                         I will not fear
What can man do unto me?

It is better to trust in the Lord
than to put confidence in man

The Lord is my strength and my song
                                        and is become my salvation
I shall not die, but live, and declare
                                                  the works of the Lord

The stone which the builders refused
is become the head stone of the corner

                                                           This
                                                        is the day
                                              which the Lord hath made
                                                     We will rejoice
                                                    and be glad in it

JUST REMEMBER

                                                      JUST REMEMBER

When your days appear the darkest
And your fortunes continue to fall
                                         When your valleys seem immeasurable
And your mountains seem too tall
                                         Just remember, just remember
                                         God is there

When your hopes have turned to ashes
And your dreams have turned to dust
                                         When your granaries are empty
And your silver's turned to rust
                                         Just remember, just remember
                                         God is there

When your back is up against the wall
And you've lost your will to strive
When the night has hidden your sunlight
And you've lost your zip and drive,
                                         Just remember, just remember
                                         God is there

When your friends politely leave you
And you don't know where to turn
When your world has stopped its caring
                                         And has forsaken its concern
                                         Just remember, just remember
                                         God is there

WE RAISE OUR CUPS

                                                                            WE RAISE OUR CUPS

                                                We have wandered
                                                To the well
                                                Of the world
                                                And have found it
                                                Dry and empty

                                                With dry lips
                                                Aching hearts
                                                And parched souls
                                                We come now
                                                Oh Lord, to Thee
                                                And raise our cups
                                                Rejoicingly

                                                As Thou pourest
                                                Out our drink
                                                Almost instantly
                                                We realize
                                                That our tiny cups
                                                Can ne'er contain
                                                Thy blessings
                                                Flowing freely
                                                Into our lives
                                                Refreshingly
                                                Eternally

SHUT MY MOUTH

                                                                                    SHUT MY MOUTH

                                         An anonymous writer has written:

"God gave man a mouth that closes and
ears that don"t. That should tell us something."

As in all things of importance, there is an
appropriate time or season for keeping silent.

Zechariah implores us to "Be silent, O all flesh,
                                         before the Lord." (Zech. 2:13)
Too often, in our prayers, we talk too much and
                                         listen too little.

May we heed the admonition of the Lord, who
said, "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear."
                                         (Matthew 11:15)

                                               PSALM 116:1,5,6,7,9,12,13,14

                                                     I love the Lord because
                                                       he hath heard my voice
                                                         and my supplications

Gracious is the Lord, and righteous
                                                     Yea, our God is merciful
                                                     The Lord preserveth the simple
I was brought low and he helped me

Return unto my rest, O my soul
a for the Lord hath dealt bountifully
                                                      with thee

I will walk before the Lord
in the land of the living

What shall I render unto the Lord
for all his benefits toward me

I will take the cup of salvation
and call upon the name of the Lord

I will pay my vows unto the Lord, now
in the presence of all his people

OUR MAIN BUSINESS

                                                                      OUR MAIN BUSINESS

"Our main business in life," wrote Thomas
Carlyle, is not to see what lies dimly at a
distance, but to do what lies clearly at hand."

What lies at hand, Oh Lord
What work would Thou have us do
Reveal to us Thy will, Oh Lord
Reveal to us our plans from You.

As the world revolves around us,
                                    Like one gigantic clamours band
Let us seek Thy face, Oh Lord
                                    And with calm assurance, stand.

No far, dim distance need we see
Only that which clearly lies at hand
To know Thy present purpose, Oh Lord
Is thy desire for every woman
Is Thy desire for every man.

IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING

IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING

I've travelled down most of the roads
of life available to you and me. Some
                                      good, some ugly, some muddy.

I've made thousands of choices over
the years. Some wise, some wicked,
                                      some foolish.

Some years ago, I came to my senses
and said it was time for a change. A
time to get on the right road toward
the land of the living. True living.
                                      Truly living.

A land with kind thoughts, pure actions,
quieter living, tranquil days, restful nights.
                                      Power packed with joyous enthusiasm.
Gladness in the heart. Serenity in the soul.

                                          Come while you may,
                                          and join with me
in the land of the living
                                          'neath the cottonwood tree
                                          Where the songbirds sing
                                          and cool waters run free
                                          Where the sun shines bright
                                          and the eagles take flight
In the land of the living
                                          What a beautiful sight

In the land of the living
                                          What a beautiful sight
