UNLESS YOU BELIEVE 497

                                                            "UNLESS YOU BELIEVE,"

"Unless you believe," wrote St. Augustine
                                 you will not understand."

Down through the ages, mankind has usually
been confused when it comes to rational and
                                 logical thinking.

It seems the more educated we have become,
it is easier to say, ''Once I understand a principle,
                                 then I'll believe it."

In reality, however, this is not the way the
mind generally works. Belief almost precedes
                                 understanding. Belief precedes accomplishment.

Heavenly Father, Even now we have some belief
and some understanding. Magnify our believing
that we may better understand out relationship
to thee. In Jesus' name. Amen.

IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING

IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING

I've travelled down most of the roads
of life available to you and me. Some
                                          good, some ugly, some muddy.

I've made thousands of choices over
the years. Some wise, some wicked,
                                          some foolish.

Some years ago, I came to my senses
and said it was time for a change. A
time to get on the right road toward
the land of the living. True living.
                                          Truly living.

A land with kind thoughts, pure actions,
quieter living, tranquil days, restful nights.
                                          Power packed with joyous enthusiasm.
Gladness in the heart. Serenity in the soul.

                                          Come while you may,
                                          and join with me
in the land of the living
                                          'neath the cottonwood tree
                                          Where the songbirds sing
                                          and cool waters run free
                                          Where the sun shines bright
                                          and the eagles take flight
In the land of the living
                                          What a beautiful sight

In the land of the living
                                          What a beautiful sight

                                                                        SUMMETRIME

                                             Summertime
                                             Slipping by so fast
                                             But we knew
                                             It wouldn't last

                                             Going, going, gone
I hear the school bells ring
                                             As the hot summer breezes
                                             Linger on

                                             Sand dunes, sand crabs
                                             Water gushing between
                                             Our toes
                                             With sand in our hair
                                             And water up our nose
                                             There she goes

                                             Summertime, summertime
                                             Farewell
                                             See you next year

                                                                      CONTENTMENT

Many have searched all of their lives
                                                 for that contentment that leads
                                                 to peace of mind.

Perhaps contentment comes from giving up
those things we cannot keep..for those things
                                                 that money cannot buy.

It was said that "A tub was large enough
for Diogenes, but a world was too little for
                                                 Alexander."

As of late, we have become aware of the
                                                 pricelessness...
                                                 Of a silent starry sky.
                                                 Of the dawn's early blush.
                                                 Of children laughing innocently.
Of the burden lifting power of prayer.

Only as we learn to be content...shall
we be able to widen the channels of our
                                                 creativity.

                                                                         PSALM 149:1,4,6,9

                                             Praise ye the Lord
                                             Sing unto the Lord
                                               A new song
                                               And his praise
                                                 In the congregation
                                                 Of  the saints

                                             For the taketh pleasure
                                             in his people
                                             He will beautify the meek
                                             with salvation

                                             Let the high praises be
                                             In their mouth
                                             And a two edged sword
                                             in their hand
                                                To execute upon them
                                                The judgment written

This honor hath all his saints
                                             Praise ye the Lord

                                                                SO, AS WITH JESUS

                                            There's...
                                            no sin he hasn't forgiven
                                            no debt he hasn't paid
                                            no place he hasn't been
                                            no blood he hasn't spilt
                                            no person he hasn't loved
                                            no prodigal he hasn't hugged
                                            no care he hasn't comforted
                                            no path he hasn't trod
                                            no infirmity he hasn't healed
                                            no leper he hasn't cleansed
                                            no battle he hasn't fought
                                            no war he hasn't won
For he has always been with us
And, he is with us still

DISLOCATED

                                                                               DISLOCATED

Many years ago when we were highly active
in sports, we developed the quaint ability to
dislocate one or both of our shoulders.
To dislocate means "to put out of place."
or "to displace from normal connections."

                                                      Pa
inful as a dislocated shoulder is, it is
diminutive in comparison to the anguish that
oft chafes our souls as we realize that our
thoughts or actions have been displaced
from their normal and beautiful connection
                                                      to the mind of God.

A displaced shoulder is painful, alright,
but a dislocated soul is even worse.

DROWNED RATS   496

                                                                            DROWNED RATS

                                     Two hundred years ago, our
                                     forefathers committed themselves
to a six year war with the British army
                                     simply because the colonists thought
it was a bit unfair to be taxed without
                                     representation.

Now we wouldn't want to presume that
our present day citizens are a little slow
                                     on their feet regarding
economics and
                                     politics, but we do wonder
why it has
taken them so long to realize that there is

something far worse than taxation without
representation, and that just happens to be...

                                     Taxation with representation!

We hardily support the present taxpayer
revolt. It is at least 25 years overdue.
It is not enough to throw a few tea bags
over the rails. Perhaps it is now time to
                                     sink a few rotten boats.

Many of our politicians are scurrying
around dazed, confused, fat, rich and
lazy. Let's keep after those nasty rodents.
Now is the time for a few drowned rats.
