                                                                                    BE MY LAMP, LORD

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and
a light unto my path."  (Psalm 119:105)

                                                        Be my lamp, Lord
                                                        Be my light
                                                        Go before me
                                                        Both day and night

                                                        With calm assurance, Lord
                                                        Lead me along
                                                        Let thy peace
                                                        Become my song

                                                        Be my light, Lord
                                                        Be my guide
                                                        Let me walk
                                                        By thy side

                                                        Guide my feet, Lord
                                                        Mark my way
                                                        Guide my feet
                                                        Both night and day

                                                   PSALM 119 TETH:65,66,68,72

                                                   Thou hast dealt well
                                                   with thy servant, O Lord,
                                                   according unto thy word

                                                   Teach me good judgment
                                                   and knowledge
                                                   For I have believed
                                                   thy commandments

Thou art good, and doest good
                                                        Teach me thy statutes

                                                   The law of thy mouth
                                                     is better unto me
                                                       than thousands
                                                         of gold and silver

                                                                           BEAUTIFUL FALL

                                                 Beautiful breeze
                                                 Blowing through the trees
                                                 Cool air without a care
                                                 Nowhere, Nowhere
                                                 Leaves falling
                                                 Leaving trees bare
                                                 So there, so there
                                                 Winter's on it's way
                                                 But for now, 'tis Fall
                                                 Bringing solace
                                                 To my soul
                                                 Letting go of days
                                                 Too old, too old

                                                 Beautiful Fall, Beautiful Fall
                                                 With leaves of gold
                                                 Biding me forward
As I grow old, as I grow old
I go play with piled up leaves
                                                 Of red, green, silver, brown
Before the winter sun bears down
Before the winter sun bears down

                                               PSALM 119 CHETH:57,58,59,60,64

Thou art my portion, O Lord
I have said that I would keep
                                          thy words

                                       I entreated thy favor
                                       with my whole heart
                                       Be merciful unto me
                                       according to thy word

                                       I thought
                                         on my ways
                                            and turned my feet
                                              unto thy testimonies

I made haste, and delayed not
                                       to keep thy commandments

                                              The earth, O Lord
                                              is full of thy mercies
                                              Teach me thy statutes

SALTY OLD GAL

                                                                                 SALTY OLD GAL

The other evening as we were pouring
salt on our corn on the cob and pork chops,
we remembered, Lot's wife (Genesis 19).
Now, there was a salty old gal.

Lot, his wife, and two daughters were permitted
to leave the forewarned city of Sodom prior to
the Lord destroying its unrighteous inhabitants.

Upon leaving Sodom, Lot's family was told
not to look back upon the city.
                                         Unfortunately, Lot's wife couldn't resist
a backward glance at the city and life she
                                         was leaving behind.

And so, Lot's wife was turned into a pillar
                                         of salt.

Don't turn back. No backward glances.
Keep going forward in the Lord.
This, for many of us, has been the difficult
                                         task in our Christian walk.

After all, Sodom has always inticingly beckoned,
                                         and beckons us still.

Be careful when it comes to backward glances.
                                         They could be fatal.

BISCUIT

                                                                                    BISCUIT

                                           Our Himalayan friend, Biscuit, passed
away this week. He was a month shy
                                           of 20 years old.

Of all the pets we have had through
the years, Biscuit, by far, was the
feistiest of them all. He was our
                                           bitey, bitey boy.

For many years he and I played the
bitey, bitey game, which he usually
won. Boy, did he have sharp teeth!

Like all the rest of our cats and dogs
who have crossed over, we surely miss
him and hope to see him again some
                                           day.

                                      PSALM 119 ZAIN:50,52,54,55

                                                   This is my comfort
                                        in my affliction
                                         for thy word
                                           hath quickened me

                                              I remember
                                         thy judgments of old
                                                 O, Lord
                                         and have comforted
                                                 myself

Thy statutes have been my songs
in the house of my pilgrimage
                                           I have remembered thy name
                                            and have kept thy law

CHRIST IS MY SHIELD AND ARMOUR

CHRIST IS MY SHIELD AND ARMOUR

Christ is my shield and armour
                                             He is my trumpet call
He helps me fight my battles
                                             And be victor over all

Christ is my pride and power
                                             He is my liberty
He overcame the chains of sin
And gave new life to me

                                             Christ marches on before me
                                             And this I surely know
Where 'ere he cares to lead me
                                             Most gladly will I go

                                             Through trials and temptations
I dare not shun the fight
For the Lord doth lead me onward
With his sword of truth and right

THE SIMPLE THING

                                                                       THE SIMPLE THING

One of our favorite stories is found in
Second Kings, chapter five of the Old Testament.

It is the story of Naaman, the mighty Syrian
                                       Army Captain. Heroic. Honorable. Valiant.
But, alas, he was a leper.
He travels to Israel to see Elisha the Prophet.
Elisha tells him to do a very simple thing...
go wash seven times in the Jordan River...
                                       and be healed.

But like most of us, Naaman was full of pride
and his vanity would not permit him to do
                                       the simple thing.

                                       Finally, Naaman's servants persuaded him
to do the simple thing, and as soon as he did,
"his flesh became as healthy as a little child's...
                                       and he was healed."

Alas, the world continues to entice us to do that
which is complicated. But the Lord continues to
offer us the way and the ways of simplicity.
                                       When will ever learn?

SEND ME

                                                                       SEND ME

If you read the New Testament carefully, you
will discover that the disciples of Jesus Christ
were usually being sent somewhere, in distance from
a half mile to several hundred miles.

If Christ were to send us somewhere today,
would it matter where? And, would we go?

Ponder these  lines by George M. Matheson...

                                         Send me
To the hearts without a home
To the lives without a love
To the crowd without a compass
To the ranks without a refuge
                                         Send me
To the children whom none have blessed
To the famished whom none have visited
To the demoniacs whom none have claimed
                                         Send me
To the fallen whom none have lifted
To the lepers whom none have touched
To the bereaved whom none have comforted
Then I shall have the birthright of the fist born
Then shall I have the blessing of the mighty God of Jacob
