MUD PIES
Dan Beard, one of the founders
of the Boy Scouts of America once said...
"A boy, like a tree, grows best with his feet
his feet in the mud."
And, it was Emerson who suggested that
when Nero advertised for a new luxury,
"a walk in the woods should have been offered."
To put it another way, there's more beauty,
wisdom and worth in one God-made dogwoood
tree than in a hundred man-mand cities.
Every boy and girl should be so fortunate as to
have a tree to climb, a path to trod, a mud puddle
in which to splash, and to watch in wonder as
their toes sink softly beneath the silky sod.
Every child should have the opportunity to roll
in the dirt and come up looking like a mud pie.
Who knows, maybe if Nero had taken to have
taken the time to really enjoy nature, he wouldn't
have fiddled his life away.
