Jefferson was concerned about big goverernment's ability to render any
valuable service to the individual.
Jefferson knew full well that a free press was
indispensable to a growing and maturing citizenry, but he was not too sure
about our need for a growing bureauracy. Jefferson knew that the task of
the press was to uncover--and to enlighten.
He knew that big government often covers up and works overtime in the darkness.
If Pressident Jefferson were alive today, he probably would buy a newspaper.
But, could he "buy" today's bureaucratic government?
