OUR MOTHER 1978
When we were in the cradle
Who oversaw our sleep
When ailments touched our bodies
Who would quietly kneel and weep
Why, none other than our mother
When toddlers we became
Who often called our name
And took us by the hand
And played a kitchen game
Why, none other than our mother
When growing up became our lot
Who often set us straight
And taught us the narrow way
And prayed about our fate
Why, none other than our mother
When our children reach our age
We trust they'll surely know
There was one who dearly loved them
And hated to see them go
'Twas no other than their mother
